Transfer Completed!

Today I spent 2 hours moving over this blog from self-hosted Wordpress to Blogger. I think it's better to save on some hosting costs. Can you believe there is no automated way to do this? Or at least I couldn't find one when I searched today. There's information on going from Blogger to Wordpress but not the other way around.

Anyway, the last couple nights I have been going to quasi-holiday get-togethers. The first one was for my book club, which is comprised of women mainly in their early 30s. Only half of which are married. Tonight, I went to an all girls sushi night where most women are in the mid-20s and most are either engaged or married. Very different perspectives! I would say... the older women were kind of more cynical. The odd thing is the younger women were all married! I guess... they wouldn't be going to all girl sushi nights if they weren't attached. Perhaps they would be out prowling for men. Whereas, at the book club, it seems some of the women have given up. Who knows? Anyway, both groups were very nice.

Craigs List Second Thoughts

I used to feel that Craig Newmark was my hero. But.. actually, my views I realized have changed over the years. Yes, it is great that Craigs List is free. And yes, it is great that he has a noble purpose.

But, classifieds seem to be very "winner-take-all" ("WTA") due to network effects dynamics. Because of that, the site doesn't have much competition. Further, the site's status as a quasi non-profit means there is little to no innovation on Craig's List. The site retains a very web 1.0 feel. It doesn't really integrate in Google maps and other cool things. But, sadly, it is very difficult to displace the #1 in a WTA business once it is entrenched.

Do your stang

Hmmm, check out this new job service called doostang.com -- supposedly, its the "networked" version of a job listing site.

I guess you can only view the job listings posted by your friends and friends-of-friends. Sort of interesting, but how often do people have jobs to post?

I guess the network concept can be pretty powerful though. It seems to me that personal word-of-mouth connections will still be stronger in job referrals than an online network, but then again, who knows?

Check it out!

Oh if you're interested in trying out doostang.com, let me know and I will send you an invite. Just add a comment below.

Edited: If you are interested in an invite, please email Mareza. His email is below.
